Free MBA Program Update

August 19, 2010

A little while back I wrote a post about what I am calling my Tuition Free MBA Reading Challenge 2010.  Basically, the gist of it is to read 50 business related books that I deem worthy of an MBA reading list.  And, I have to read all 50 within the calendar year of 2010.  The [...]

Empowering Others

August 18, 2010

A manager who has created empowered employees is a happy manager.  However, achieving this state is not an easy battle and requires a great deal of strategy and restraint. You are a manager.  Your job is not to do one job extremely well anymore.  However, your brain is still programmed to seek the challenge and [...]

New Lessons and a New Discipline

August 17, 2010

Today I took my first Karate class.  Thank you to the Ryokubi Dojo in Stamford,CT for being so hospitable and welcoming.  This Dojo teaches Shotokan Karate which is one of many styles but basically involves training, forms (Kata), and sparring (Kumite).  I found the class to be stimulating, challenging, fun, and rewarding. Be it work habits, spending habits, exercise habits, [...]

What Happened? I Think I Blacked Out…

August 12, 2010

Every day my toolbar bookmark to the admin dashboard of this blog stares me in the face.  That sleek lower case “b” logo that I designed a few months back taunts and burns into my soul.  ”You started this blog and it was all you could talk about for weeks,” it says, “and now look [...]

How Effective Are Your Meetings?

June 7, 2010

So, how do we avoid the lizard brain’s hold on our meeting strategies? We will never completely eliminate meetings and actually we shouldn’t. Meetings can be extremely effective and vital if attention is duly paid to time, action items, and agenda. I have recently been reading the book “Making Ideas Happen.” by Scotty Belsky. If you are interested in this topic I highly recommend that you read it. In the book, Belsky examines the different types of meetings and why some are effective and why some fall short. I am only going to briefly cover two of the concepts he discusses. Fore more detail please read Belsky’s book.
