Writing Challenge in Review and Plans Moving Forward

by Brian Landi on September 1, 2010

Well everyone, today is the last day of my 3 week blog post challenge.  21 posts in 21 days and it was a great experience!  Thanks for being a part of it!  Here are a couple of things that I learned:

Creativity Breeds Creativity – By forcing myself to write something new every day I literally had to maintain a constant creative outlook.  I was always looking for ideas for blog posts.  And, it helped me to look at the world through an interesting new lens.

Adherence to a Strict Schedule is a useful tool. Knowing that I had a commitment to write a post each and every day helped me to budget my time more effectively.  This new challenge did not change the amount of responsibilities I have in work and at home but helped me to more efficiently complete my tasks in these areas to allow for the time to write.

Writing provides a great creative outlet for me. I enjoy writing.  Not only does it push my mind to articulate all of the thoughts running around up there but I find it helps me with my ability to communicate with people in my life in general.

Next Steps

For the next 3 weeks I would like to commit to writing no fewer than 3 posts per week because I do not want to lose momentum.  I have decided to stop posting every day during this time so I can shift some of my efforts to promoting Bits of Business and developing budding relationships with fellow bloggers.

Many thanks to all of you who have been supportive during these 3 weeks and who take time out their day to share in this conversation.

Enjoyed very much and found that in the last two weeks attempting to post every day has pushed me as well to identify more clearly what I wanted to write about.
Each idea has helped formed others, but many are sitting in limbo waiting and gestating!

omg.. 21 posts in 21 days… cant believe you kept up, that is some determination!
looks like if youre organized and plan ahead, you have a clear idea in mind what to do and be consistent with it everyday.

Thanks Cindy! And yes it did require determination. But I think it is doable for anyone and a great way to jump start a blog. I saw my readership improve dramatically. As far as the plans moving forward I think that the consistency is the most important thing. Thanks for your thoughts!

Yes I have found that making a list is useful. Also, few times I would write rough drafts of 3 or 4 posts at a time. And then revisit them posting them in order of the ones that were most cohesive first. Thanks!

What do you use to keep track? Generally, I’m using email, but when driving, I’ve used my google voice account to act a recorder- it sends me an email with the laughable transcript and my notes!

Aren’t those transcriptions funny? I have used Vlingo for Blackberry which also has given me some funny interpretations of what I say. Sometimes, I will just create drafts in WordPress with nothing but a title with a topic that I would like to write about. I have also used a digital voice recorder but I can’t seem to find it right now. LOL! Thanks!
